Summary/Abstract: This article is to answer the question if emigrants who come to the countries concerned with environmental issues, develop these issues as well in their native countries when they return to them. Environmental research shows following statistical picture of ecological behaviour among the emigrants in Leżajsk district. The research covered 218 emigrants from this district. The emigration targeted mainly highly industrialized countries, such as: France, USA, Great Britain and Germany. However, despite long term visit in that country, only seven people declared ecological education as an asset of emigration. Furthermore the same environmental research shows the following data regarding investigated population. Only 11% of questioned people provide waste sorting in their household. More than 25% remove waste to illegal dumping grounds, causing the littering of the forests. Up to 18% farms empty the cesspools into the rivers and drainage ditches. More then 36% of questioned people burn plastics and rubber in furnaces. All this negative behaviour takes place in spite of huge ecological investments in the investigated district. Total amount of investment for the years 2003-2013 will come to 31 347 114.67 zł. European Regional Development Fund will provide the projects with the sum of 18 990 902.15 zł. After close examination of these data we can state that unfortunately the emigrants have not followed the rules of ecological behaviour in their native country, even though they have adapted to them during their stay in the EU countries and in the USA. There is an assumption that only the persuasion of the civil administration such as high financial penalization provided by municipal police and forest guards, can enforce the admirable behaviour of a citizen of the European Union.
