Formation of competitiveness of Ukrainian banks under the influence of foreign capital

Summary/Abstract: The article provides an analysis of the impact of the global financial crisis on the processes associated with the movement of capital and the main trends of foreign banks in Ukraine. The author investigates the dynamics of the expansion of foreign capital in Ukraine over the last decade, structural changes in the competitive environment in the banking sector, banking market restructuring, distribution of banks with foreign capital by the country of origin equity, reasons of foreign capital outflow from the country in the post-crisis period. Moreover, the article provides a comparative analysis of the structure, level and rate of expansion of foreign bank capital in Central and Eastern Europe. As a result, the author determines the effects of the expansion of foreign banks due to the increasing levels of competition and efficiency of the banking system, the role of foreign banks in shaping the competitiveness of the domestic banking sector in Ukraine and suggests possible lines forming the competitiveness of domestic banks under the influence of foreign capital.
