Summary/Abstract: Transformation and its Modernization Elements: Comparing Czech Republic with Slovak Republic. Population attitudes to the social changes after the 1989 are rather critical in both Czech and Slovak Republics. Both the societies are very similar in general, however the survey Actors and Strategies of Social Transformation and Modernization (1995) observed particular differences. Paper discusses the cross - republic comparison of the survey findings, especially the Czech and Slovak respondents' interpretations and evaluations of the role of institutional actors (president, government, political opposition).
