Summary/Abstract: The article deals with some issues concerning the introduction of pluralistic approaches and multicultural learning in foreign culture contexts on a global scale. National culture is commented within Hofstede’s theory of organizations and cultures. The author bases her claim on the understanding that the roles of the teacher and the student present a classic scenario of social behaviour. A detailed analysis of the teacher-student relationship in the Bulgarian culture follows. Some crucial elements of the Bulgarian culture that may prevent the success of the introduction of multiculturalism relating to learner autonomy and motivation are brought to the fore. Finally it is concluded that due to the Bulgarian cultural specifics that can cause setups in the introduction of multiculturalism in Bulgarian education the leading role in the teaching/learning process should be the one of the teacher.
