KITCHEN REVOLUTIONS, OR POLITICAL PROJECT OF ANTHONY GIDDENS

Summary/Abstract: Text offers analysis of Anthony Giddens’ concept of transformations of intimacy from various perspectives: approach of theories of democracy, sociology of love, feminist theories and sociology of family. In his book The Transformations of Intimacy Giddens presents diagnosis of occurring social change on the one hand, and appeals to join it on the other. His concept is analysed in the paper from various perspectives. Firstly, through comparison with other sociological theories dealing with gender change, as Manuel Castells, Roland Inglehart or Pippa Norris. Moreover, it’s being analysed in the context of sociology of politics, and finally, feminist theories and their appeal “private is political”. Another framework of analysis is methodological approach and research practice, especially the research conducted in Poland, and predictions of possible and necessary influence of development of Giddens’ concept onto the further research.
