Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to analyze some of the long-term implications of the new forms of conflict towards the rule of law, the rules of warfare, taking into account several factors such as: the legal status of non-state actors, the complexity of the relationships in conflict areas, the legitimacy and liability under the rules of the humanitarian law. This paper suggests that the symbiotic relationship that exists between private military companies and the parties involved in a conflict goes beyond the contractual obligations and into the rules of the humanitarian law.
