Summary/Abstract: This paper is focused on the concept "subjective well-being" as a relatively new one, discussed in modern psychology. It aims to outline the essence of the concept, to trace the development of research work and to specify some of the predictors of subjective well-being. Subjective well-being comprises satisfaction with life and happiness. These two components correlate with different variables — age, sex, income, religion, family status, social comparison, extraversion, personal traits. We provide results from a sample of 473 Bulgarian adolescents aged 16-20. Results refer to the effect of age, sex and income on the subjective well-being. Results of cross-cultural comparison are also presented and discussed.
