Summary/Abstract: The article reveals one hypothesis, based on the analysis of the available documents. According to it in the eve of the April Plenum of 1956 there were three political groups in the ranks of Bulgarian political elite, struggling for Tchervenkov's heritage. The first one was the group of the future winner Todor Zhivkov - the footman of the Bulgarian dictator. The second group was of the ancient Tchervenkov's companions and rivals George Tchankov and Anton Ugov. And the third one consisted of the long time ago eliminated from the rale Ionko Panov and Dobri Terpeshev. So, in spite of the support, coming from Moscow, T Zhivkov had to neutralize quickly the guileless third group, gradually to push aside the more dangerous circle and finally to guarantee his own power.
