Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the income structure and stratification of the contemporary Greek society on the basis of inequality in the earning and distribution of personal incomes. Different scales of the income stratification are presented consequently: by income sources; by educational level; by gender; in dependence on the social status; and by economic branch. The analysis is based on a survey of the National Centre of Social Research, Athens. Income and dycil groups in Greece are described. An attempt is made to measure the concrete values of the coefficients of inequality — Gini and Theil. The presented data shows the degree of polarisation of the Greek society and supports the idea of the Greek economy as included, but peripherial to the European Community.
