Summary/Abstract: The essence of the term ‘multifunctional integrated complex’. Prerequisites for the emergence of projects and implementations, corresponding to the term in the recent decade in Bulgaria. Presentation and analysis of a case study of two main groups are provided: – Implemented sites of private investors with residential/trade, trade/office and other combined functions. Main conclusions regarding the advantages and difficulties, stemming from the combination of the functions; – Urban projects, initiated by municipalities or the state for the construction of multifunctional integrated complexes on undeveloped sites in the cities: International Competition for a Secondary City Centre, Sofia; Project for the site of the Former Military School in Veliko Tyrnovo and prospects for their step-by-step implementation.
