Summary/Abstract: In this article, we argue that there are some aspects regarding vulgar Latin that can be found in the works of both Coşeriu and Stefaneli, with special reference to the article published by Coşeriu in 1954. We focus mainly on three ideas: the common points of Coseriu’s article (i.e. the classic Latin and the vulgar Latin influenced each other), the different points of his article and of the present research (i.e. the Germanic influence is considered nowadays less important in the diversification of the Roman language than it was in the past) and the original ideas developed by Coşeriu (i.e. the role of the cultural decline in the dissolution of the common language).
