The “Granny” Faces

Summary/Abstract: On the traditional level of Bulgaian culture, the word "granny", its derivatives and synonyms, when used independently or in combination, denote ritual and mythological personages, and any anonymous elderly woman. The image of the granny is present in all key ritual moments and in everyday life. Multilayered and dynamic, it has not been comprehensively analysed. The article sets out its main identification codes as a groundwork for functional analysis.
