Summary/Abstract: Life in the small community of Slovakian settlers and their descendants in four Bulgarian villages during a period of about half a century got a significant place in their collective memory, leaving quite an obvious trace in both Bulgarian and Slovakian societies. From documental sources, memories, field observations and interviews with representatives of this community on Bulgarian and Slovakian territory, we see outlined the interesting story of a series of migrations throughout which the settlers survive together while preserving their ethnic, cultural and religious identity. The text considered is an attempt to derive knowledge about the community of “Bulgarian” Slovaks – re-immigrants based on the personal self-reflection of a woman who belonged to the last generation born in Bulgaria. It presents field records made during a couple of years and formatted in the sequence of the life of the informant woman. In the sections of the article, there is a representation of the life of Slovakian re-immigrants at different times in Bulgarian and Slovakian environment but it has been mainly shown in the light of the personal and family story. This is an appropriate way to see the specific characteristics of the studied community through the mentality of a person who was born and lived in it and partly shared its ways of migration.
