Summary/Abstract: The study deals with the quotation used by Jesus in John’s Gospel about “living water”. In the theological structure of John’s Gospel, chapter 7 underlines the prophetic activity of Jesus, using the quotation formula: “(The) Scripture said”. The sources of the quotation remain open to debate to scholars, yet the biblical and theological sense is undoubted from the standpoint of patristic literature. By Jesus’ mediation, the faithful receive the Holy Spirit. The disciple, reborn as a child of God, is now gifted with a new quality of life as lived by God in eternity.
