Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the organization of space in the Bulgarian Renaissance town as documented by the travel literature writers from 18th . 19th century. Street, bazaar, market, square have been analyzed in the frame of their changing functions and uses. Their presence or absence was interpreted as a differential for defining the culture as urban or rural.
