Summary/Abstract: The author analyzes the limits of the so-called 'digital divide' concept, which indicates the inequality of access to, and use of, contemporary ICT. Its methodological background in terms of technological determinism are revealed. On the basis of empirical data of the social and demographic profiles of users of traditional (ordinary postal) and modern information services in Bulgaria, the paper defends the concepts of technology social embeddedness, according to which the contemporary digital inequality is just one dimension of a wider information inequality that is social, not technological, in nature.
