END OF XV AND BEGINNING OF XVI CENTURY FESTAL HOMILIARY (TORZHESTVENNIK) FROM NATIONAL ARCHIVE OF KARELIAN REPUBLIC

Summary/Abstract: Manuscript № 30 (27), Festal Homiliary (Torzhestvennik), from the National Archive of Karelian Republic contains the main archaic body of Slavic translations of homilies from the Triodioncalendar cycle, which are part of the Codex Suprasliensis and of the Glagolita Glocianus of the XI century. The fact that the codex also contains late medieval translations and original texts is of interest as well. The article examines the question of whether or not the Slavic copies from the XIV–XVI century are reliable sources for the study of the body of texts of the early Slavic translations. It defends the thesis that the manuscripts should be studied not only as a type of codex, content, and structure, but that every part of the manuscript needs to be examined individually and in depth. The text should be compared with the early as well as with the late copies of the same homily in the literary practice of the Southern and Eastern Slavs. The language criteria should be chosen as the main basis for classification. The Russian men of letters copied the texts in a disciplined manner. That is why the texts are viewed as a reliable source for the research of the codex of early Slavic translations
