Summary/Abstract: As a consequence of the deregulation and globalization processes that have taken place in the banking industry, banks are financial institutions that operate in extremely complex environment. The internationalization, concentration, consolidation and conglomeration of banks on national and global levels created certain additional benefits (economie of scale and scope, diffusion of financial innovation, knowledge and expertise), but also inclined with significant reluctance regarding the performance of the actual banking constellation, even pessimism about the efficiency of the liberalized banking activities in the current institutional frame. As a result of this, the risk agenda has been continuously extended, beyond the list of convencional banking risks: credit and liquidity risk, interest and currency risk. Bank managers are facing some less convencional banking risks: market risks, compliance risk, operative risk, strategic risk, reputational risk, etc. The globalization processes especially intensify the unconvencional banking risks, as traditional risks amplifiers. The Banking Supervision Comittiee in the new capital accords insists on explicit quantification of overall banking risks, beyond the traditional ones, in function of the strengthening the capital adequacy requirements. The involvement of various activities from the securitization domain, the outsourcing and off-shoring activities intensify the irrevocable need for total risk approach as an important precondition for healthy banking order. Despite the approach of insufficient exactness of certain untraditional risk factors, the increased complexity and uncertainty as result of the globalization processes, we should amplify the necessity of exactness in the monitoring of all the risks, that recently were taken as unmesaurable, a.i. incorporated in the credit and market risks. The banking industry and regulatory authorities are incouraged to find and develop appropriate methods to encounter all the banking risk: the compliance risk, operative risk, strategic risk, reputation risk, etc. The amplifying complexity of the globalized banking activities, creates requirements for strengthening of the regulatory aspects in the sense of more prudent strength of the regulative, as well as reaching certain levels oh harmonization as a function of a more succesfull banking corporations working on the international scene.
