Summary/Abstract: In comparison to other similar towns, Prienai was especially prosperous in the second half of the 18th century. The activity of the parson of Prienai parish, Mykolas Pranciškus Karpavičius, made the parish school exceptional all over the deanery. The article examines the position of Prienai parish school in comparison to other Kaunas deanery parish schools, as reflected in the visitation records of the Kaunas deanery representative Ignotas Jokūbas Masalskis in 1782. It can be seen that due to the efforts of Karpavičius, a number of innovations of the Education committee were implemented in the Prienai parish school. For the effective work, the parson spent his own savings, invited laymen to donate land for school, and used the resources of the church. Differently from the other parishes of Kaunas deanery, Prienai church resources were rather considerable due to the Kaspar Horvat’s foundation. Prienai was a demographically rich parish, which also guaranteed a bigger number of learners in comparison to the parishes with smaller population.
