Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an analysis of the position and education of the Montenegrin woman in brotherhood-tribal Montenegro. Historically, her role was related to the family, which was also at the same time her most important personal and social functions. Social evaluation of the woman and her acceptance by the staff (the brotherhood, the tribe) to which she belongs, from her birth to her different stages of age, was directly related to the organization of family life. Household and raising children demanded from the women during her a whole life to be "tied" to the house. Otherwise, she was involved in her entire social life only indirectly - through her father, brothers, husband, son or other male relatives. The family was, therefore, both her micro and macro world. Thus, the position of the Montenegrin woman on the social scale in the 19th century, always dependened on her dominant role in the vertical family relationships and the meaning that in a social sense of belonging she gained by powerful male figures: father, brother or husband. From this, the provisions stipulated in traditional law that stood for gender inequality in inheritance-property, legal and economic and other issues.
