The Romanian-Italian relations during the Italian-Ethiopian war: between friendship and sanctions. History and historiography

Summary/Abstract: Abstract This article analysis the attitude of Romania during the years 1935-1936 when Italy prepared and then unleashed the war against Ethiopia and the effects of this attitude upon the bilateral relations between Romania and Italy. It also discloses the position of the League of Nations during and after the war between Italy and Ethiopia. It demonstrates the failure of the policy of peace and collective security promoted by status quo states of the League of Nations, including Romania. Riasunto Questo articolo mostra l'atteggiamento della Romania nel 1935-1936 quando l'Italia ha iniziato la guerra contro l'Etiopia, e le relazioni bilaterali tra la Romania e l'Italia in quegli anni. Si spiega anche la posizione della Società Nazione e le sanzioni adottate contro l'Italia, soprattutto durante e dopo la guerra tra l'Italia e l'Etiopia. Essa dimostra il fallimento della politica della pace e della sicurezza collettiva promossa dalle paese della Lega, tra cui si trovava anche la Romania
