Upper Silesia’s autonomy idea

Summary/Abstract: In the first part of this study the author tried to answer the question of whether there are grounds of historical, legal and cultural nature to grant autonomous status to the Upper Silesia. The main emphasis in the text is placed on the visibility of the historical fate of the region and its inhabitants, as well as the real possibility of the introduction of self-determination under the existing legal structures. Therefore the key was to indicate the essential characteristics of such concepts as „nation”, „autonomy”, „decentralization” or „local government”. The second part of the study contains the interpretation of test results, which represent the views of the residents of the country in this matter. The final element is the summary, which is a brace holding together the whole text.
