Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to reveal the contexts for a productive discussion of the auto-narrative problem on the basis of the phenomenon of (self)oblivion, which is understood as an extreme event that pushes the auto-narrator out of the realm of articulated experience. At the same time it is argued that (self)oblivion could be treated as a main component of some “cultural characters” (J. Lotman) and can be even imitated, creating a certain self-representation. On the other hand, from the perspective of post-structuralism the phenomenon of (self)oblivion is treated as one of the main functions of writing, which “erases” the figure of the Author.
