Summary/Abstract: The paper provides a brief historical context and outlines the events regarding French occupation of the southeast coast of the Adriatic Sea. The events are related to the 1797 Peace of Campo Formio, when Austria temporarily took possession of Dalmatia and Dubrovnik. It gives a summary of the establishment of administrative jurisdiction of Kingdom of Italy over this area, and ultimately, of the entry of this area into the wider whole of Illyrian provinces
