Summary/Abstract: Better than any other contemporary state-structure, Portugal gives an opportunity to analyze the institutionalized authoritarian rule in combination with corporatism as its basic corner stone. Having in mind its extensive experience with the system of economical and political control, the complex institutional structure, as well as the categorical ideological declarations of it’s politicians, Portugal represents a really fine and unprecedented opportunity for studying the model of modern corporatism. Although cursory, in the article an analyze is made, on the peculiar features during the thirties of the last century in Portugal’s political development and the specific features of this authoritarian reply to the modernization in a poor European state. Estimation of the consequences which the fact of putting into practice the corporatism had on the standard of life, the political liberty and safety of the Portugal citizens.
