The uprisings show Washington that American policies toward the region basing on cooperation with the authoritarian regimes for decades have not been sustainable anymore. Washington exposes to criticisms from the international society and its domestic politics on the basis that the U.S. must support democratic demonstrations and has responsibility for the protection of national interests in Arab region. The Obama administration which is in dilemma of locating itself between “values” and “interests” in foreign policy chose the latter. Although the Obama administration remarks its support to Arab people, in fact, it spends enormous effort to save pro-American regimes.
