Summary/Abstract: The paper presents an analysis of the variants of refraction of the fairy-tale component in the fantastic works of 1970s–80s Russian literature, namely the philosophical tale “Rabbits and boa constrictors” by F. Iskander and the novel-tale “The squirrel” by A. Kim. In the narrative structures of these works, this component serves as a mechanism of transmission of the “memory of the genre”. The result of the analysis, which confirmed its topicality, was the revelation of the existential perspective in both of the works, and the understanding of the ways of disclosing it in the structural and semantic aspect. In F. Iskander’s “Rabbits and boa constrictors”, the fairy-tale code is realized through a “polar” world structured by the binary oppositions, which determine both social and existential planes of the work. The use of the fairy-tale model in A. Kim’s “The squirrel” contributes to the formation of polyphonic narrative and makes it possible to transfer the everyday-life plane of the event line into the status of symbolic existential reality.
