Summary/Abstract: The 'Isihasm' and the First Step of theMoldavian Opposition Against the Decretes of the Florence Council (1442-1447). This study debates, on behalf of thoroughly chosen historical records, the relationship between the monastic life in the Moldavian monasteries and the Isihastic current, the critical attitude of the 'Isihasm' concerning the unifying of the two Christian churches and the reaction of the Moldavians against the compromises achieved in the Florence Council. The reign of Stephen the IInd, who initiates the relationships between Moldavia and The Saint Mountain of Athos and founds the Mitropoly of Roman, represents the initial point of the reaction against the Florentine idea; this is the reason why he was deprived of his throne and then murdered in 1447.
