Summary/Abstract: Using analysis and excerpts from oral history interviews, this article introduces Roma women activists and Roma women’s activism in Central/Eastern Europe. The situation of Roma people in general and Roma women in particular, calls into question grand narratives about Europe’s progressivism. At the same time, the small group of Roma women who identify both with Roma rights and women’s rights are developing theory and praxis that exemplifies feminist theories of intersectionality. By addressing race, class, and gender oppression simultaneously, Roma women activists are changing the landscape of European civil society and advancing global feminism.
