Summary/Abstract: Reviewing the themes of some of the most important public speeches of Metropolitan Bartolomeu, such as his enthronement speech, characterized by its programmatic core, which was repeated at the Varlaam’s Homily Symposium (May 1993), his sermons for the patronal festival of Nicula Monastery and some pastoral epistles, one finds that the elements of social ethics and social solidarity, such as the role of culture and education, spiritual and practical ecumenism (social, philanthropic), involvement and political ethics, social responsibility of the Church, the ethos of media, bioethics, electronic registration of the population (biometric passports), corruption in public life, ecology (moral and spiritual pollution) are the column of these speeches. Metropolitan Bartholomeu attempted and, at least in part, he succeeded by his charismatic preaching, to present Christianity as the true “social challenge” to solidarity and humanism. His pulpit was one of the most important and credible moral reform tribunes of the Romanians after the falling of communism.
