Summary/Abstract: The idea of family in the western culture has evolved throughout the centuries, from a strong-tied relationship between man-woman-children to the most varied combinations of person-to-person bonds. In many Western societies, the parents’ sexual orientation no longer defines the family structure. This paper studies identity and family relations by means of semiotics and conceptual metaphor theory.
