Summary/Abstract: The title of the this paper was borrowed from Vassil Stoyn's collection of folk songs with the same title Bulgarian Folk Songs from Eastern and Western Thrace. The study uses the published (1678) songs as an empiric material to isolate characteristic for the region music structures as well as to examine the role of the second modal pillar as an intersection point of the music structures that form the resulting mode in songs with wider ambitus. Along with the initial statistical approach, in identifying the modal structures, in this study have been borrowed methods from the Eastern music theory (Persian-Arab-Turkish), an approach used by the early 20th century Bulgarian musicologists Dobri Hristov and Stoyan Dzudzev.
