The Context And Implications Of Hooligan Violence In Serbia

Summary/Abstract: Today, as in not so distant past, intermingling of politics and sports in Serbia results in (among other things) violence. In this article we shed some light on the specifics of hooligans’ violence and we deal with the issue of defining a violent fan group. Afterwards we discuss attempts to justify violence on the ground that it represents legitimate way of expressing political protest. At the same time, we touch upon the problem of specific context of this kind of violence and upon its political implications by exam- ining recent events in the streets of Belgrade and Genoa.
