Summary/Abstract: The presentation is based on fieldwork in the town of Pomorie on the Black Sea coast – a typically urban structure since the time of Antiquity. The population of Pomorie for generations on end has had urban self-consciousness and that applies to both the autochthonous citizens (as far as they could be defined in this way) and the citizens who settled there later at different times and because of different reasons. Among the characteristics of this urban self-consciousness is for example the high percentage of people with higher education (for different generations) in the town, the strong interest to classical music and theater, etc. In this context today the citizens of Pomorie, organized in different informal structures, in certain situations feel the necessity of perceiving and reproducing traditional cultural forms, which turn out to be an important identification marker. This practice is also observed in cases, when the accepted traditional form (for example a song) is not actually a part of the cultural heritage of the people taking part in the informal structure. Is not that a case of “introduced identity”?
