Summary/Abstract: Some stages in the rise, the development and the diffusion of the Bulgarian people’s songs for justice and freedom are traced in the article. Certain peculiar relationships between folk revolutionary songs and personal poetry are also disclosed. It is pointed out that there is an unbreakable bond between the character and the contents of these songs dedicated to the struggle for justice and freedom and the concrete historical events. These songs have appeared as early as the epoch of the haydouk movement, and they have subsequently developed and expanded their range and their contents with the spread of the Bulgarian people’s struggle for liberation from the Ottoman conquerors during our National Revival and subsequently, from social oppressors.
