Summary/Abstract: The work expounds beliefs of the renowned German lawyer Carl Schmitt and tries to launch a discussion about his interpretation of the state, society and democracy. Following different stages which Schmitt’s thought went through, the author tries to penetrate specific philosophical and legal logic within each one of them. Schmitt is seen as a thinker with many faces, i.e. a controversial author whose work is laden with political and ideological implications. By carefully reading his writings and distinguishing between what he pledges the entire science of law, society and politics with, and idealogized projects which his thought sometimes leaned towards, it is possible to separate the descriptive level from the normative level of his thinking. Talented, enlightening and dangerous at the same time, Schmitt leaves original arguments within his reflections on the state and its internal system. The author of the text tries to demonstrate how the arguments can lead to legal and politicological nihilism without disputing their uniqueness.
