Summary/Abstract: This paper is a presentation for the 4th ICSL in Sarajevo on 21 April 2008. It presents a case study of the Southeast European Collections (SEEC) in the British Library. The paper deals in five parts with the SEEC’s achievements and challenges over the last three years. It also discusses in detail the experiences of the SEEC, while trying to respond to this year’s ICSL topic on funding, cooperation and staffing in libraries. The main focus in the text is given to the problem of working with reduced resources without impact on services and development. The paper explains the main features of the SEEC as part of European collections, a merger which came about in 2005. It also gives an overview of some unique collection items from the region held in the Library’s manuscript department. It covers the most important individual and collaborative projects undertaken so far in the SEEC, in particular promotion of the collections within the Library. The paper touches upon future plans in relation to promotions and staff development within the collections. There are a number of notes with useful facts and figures which serve to support the points raised in the main text.
