Summary/Abstract: The study investigated the content of the spontaneous self-concept in relationship to individualism/collectivism as measured by the BIC-scale. The self-concept of collectivists, compared to individualists, contained more elements that represented their social identity, as well as more elements of the general trait "dependability". Male individualists, compared to male collectivists, included more personal attitudes, preferences and motives in their spontaneous self-concept. Contrary to the hypothesis, female individualists described themselves by more elements of the general trait "greeableness" than female collectivists.
