Tradition and Contemporary Studies in Syllogistics (The Existential Import in Syllogistics)

Summary/Abstract: The article treats the Existential import (EI) in syllogistics; the number of valid modes of syllogism; resolving syllogisms CAMESTROP (AEOb2) and CAMENTOP (AEO – 4), using different methods for that: Leonard Euler’s Method (Euler diagrams), John Venn’s diagrams, Lewis Carroll’s diagrams, Lewis Carroll’s Method of Subscription and modern approaches to solving syllogisms. The solution of these problems presents the demarcation between Tradition and Modernity in Syllogistics. The number of valid syllogisms is different in Traditional and Modern Logic.
