Cognitive Linguistics and Its Contribution to the Research on the Influence of Worldview on the Description of Social World

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses results of the research on the meaning given to the word rasizm by the authors of the two socio-political periodicals: extreme nationalists’ “Szczerbiec” and antifascist “Nigdy Więcej”. As a theoretical basis were employed concepts of cognitive linguistics investigating into connections between pragmatic functioning in reality and the way of describing this reality, shaping the picture of social world being specific to each environment. Systems of values characteristic of the surveyed groups turn out to be so significant factors shaping the picture of social word that they indirectly affect very divergent ways of understanding racism.
