DEVELOPMENT OF RAIL TRAFFIC IN THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA BY 2050

Summary/Abstract: Defining strategic development commitments of The railways of the Republic Srpska by 2050 represents a vertical from which both the development of railway transport and economic (industrial) development in the Republic of Srpska is observed. Through his scientifically analytical approach, the author percieves directions of development of the railway traffic (infrastructural modernization, passenger and freight traffic, pointing to specific development projects,whichimplementation depends on a number of conditions (favorable political environment, securing investments, growth of the gross domestic product, implementation of the low-carbon transport strategy, measures of multidimensional connectivity "Belt and Road" and energy security). The main goal of the research is to identify the directions of development of the Railways of the Republic of Srpska, i.e. projects of modernization of railway infrastructure, passenger and freight traffic. The development of railway traffic requires huge investments, whereby the implementation of modernization projects will take place in stages and gradually. The research results indicate that the most urgent (currently the most acceptable) projects are: procurement of new means of transport (electric locomotives, railway machines and equipment) with the reconstruction of workshops for the maintenance of rail vehicles, reconstruction of the Doboj - Zvornik railway (electrification, Križevići tunnel, reconstruction of the Prijedor - Banja Luka and the railway Doboj - Šamac. The research is based on the hypothesis that the development of the Republic Srpska Railways in the period by 2050 - development perspectives are open if the modernization of railway traffic is followed by investments, and the plans are implemented in accordance with the strategic interests of the Republic Srpska.
