Summary/Abstract: This study explores the spiritual hermeneutics of violent scriptural passages in Christianity and Islam through a comparative analysis of two key figures: Gregory of Nyssa and Abd Al-Razzaq Al- Kashani. By focusing on Gregory’s Life of Moses and Al-Kashani’s Ta’wīlāt al-Qur’an, the article examines how each thinker reinterprets warfare and destruction in their respective scriptures – not as calls to literal violence, but as symbols of the soul’s inner struggle against sin, ego and spiritual ignorance. The research highlights a shared exegetical impulse across traditions: the transformation of troubling historical or legal material into allegories of ethical and mystical ascent. This comparative perspective reveals a deep consonance between Christian Patristic thought and Islamic Sufi exegesis in their quest for a sacred reading that transcends the letter of the text.
