Summary/Abstract: Military ranks are one of the most important elements that show the organizational structure of an army and ensure its order. With the existence of ranks, responsibilities are determined within the army, discipline is ensured, the control system is facilitated and coordination is established effectively. In addition, ranks ensure that soldiers are recognized and respected in society and among other soldiers. By examining these ranks, which are the basic terms of armies, various information can be obtained on the above-mentioned issues regarding armies. In this study, all of the old Turkic inscriptions were scanned and the military ranks in the inscriptions were identified and examined. As a result of the scanning, it was seen that there were on başı, yüz başı, bėş yüz başı, tokuz yüz başı, bıŋ başı, bėş bıŋ başı, bıŋa başı, buyruk, iç buyruk, iç buyruk başı, çawış, er, er başı, seŋün, sü başı, iç sü başı, totok, turgak başı, otuz er başı(?) ranks in the military structure during the period of the inscriptions. It is certain that other ranks other than those mentioned here were used at that time, but since they are not witnessed in the inscriptions, they are not included in this study. In the study, various information is given about in which inscriptions the ranks are found, how many times they are mentioned, how they are interpreted by Turkologists, word origins and whether they exist in modern Turkey. In addition, some inferences were made about the duties they performed and their units, based on the context in which the ranks were mentioned in the line, and these were supported with examples.
