Summary/Abstract: The study examines, based on an analysis of 101 probate files by the clerics of the Olomouc Diocese from 1746 to 1783, the practice of creating testaments by clerics. It monitors how successful the church authorities’ calls for a testament have been, which facts that have had an impact on whether the clerics has made a last will, and in what advance before his death the clergy’s testaments were made. Other fates of testaments within probate proceedings following the death of clerics are also analysed. The ascertainments achieved are used to answer the question of what function the clerical testament performed in the reporting period and environment.
