Summary/Abstract: After a brief historical reconstruction, the article shows how Buffon’s Natural History was crucial both for Kant’s understanding of nature and for Goethe’s works on the natural sciences. It conceptually compares Kant’s teleological conception with Goethe’s anti-finalist vision of Nature, and concludes with some remarks on the philosophical topicality of Goethe’s morphology.
