Summary/Abstract: The memorialization of World War I in contemporary Serbian culture illustrates how this process was affected by ongoing political and social trends. From 1980 until today, the memory of the First World War has been revitalized through the erection of numerous monuments. During the 1980s and 1990s, there was a surge in the erection of monuments to military leaders. It represented a clear sign of the militarization of Serbian society.
