The Publishing and Social Activities of Blessed Fr. Ignatius Klopotowski (1866-1931) and St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe (1894-1941), Creators of Pre-War Catholic Media Centers

Summary/Abstract: In connection with the rapid development of the press in the 19th century,in accordance with the recommendations of the Church, which called for the rejectionof content that depraved or that degraded religion, the idea of creating the so-called “good press” was born. Two figures stand out in the history of Polish Catholic publishing: – BlessedFather Ignacy Kłopotowski and Saint Father Maksymilian Maria Kolbe. Both also share similarsocial thought. Kłopotowski began his priestly path by serving the most needy, but from thevery first years of his priesthood he published religious brochures and prayer books, the taskof which was also to educate in patriotism and social responsibility and culture. The greatwork that ensured the continuation of his endavour is the religious congregation of the Sistersof Our Lady of Loreto. Kolbe founded and published “Rycerz Niepokalanej” and many othermagazines on religious and social topics. He was a tireless missionary and builder of the monasteryin Niepokalanów. The determined journalistic and publishing work of both priests was based onthe foundation of the Church’s teaching. Their fidelity to principles and heroic personality traitsled to the glory of the altars.
