Summary/Abstract: The postrevolutionary years opened doors for various forms of diaristic literature as a sign of complete freedom of speech and freedom of self as an artist. ‘Little life stories’ became the new main literary attraction and many writers approached this epic genre in an attempt to recreate past social environments and to embrace confession as a way of connecting with the readers. People in need to find the truth about the dark communist era or to reclaim it piece by piece were in desperate search for anything that could fill in the blanks and one way of doing so was by devouring autobiographies, memoirs, diaries or any other forms of subjective litterature. Both readers and critics were eagerly waiting for the latest book of Ovid S. Crohmălniceanu, Amintiri deghizate (Disguised Recollections). But instead of being an intimate life story or at least parts of it that could provide information about his deep connection with the communist ideology or his past choices in matters of literary criticism, the book proves to be a sum of providential encounters, personal experiences related to many other important writers of the communist era, random episodes concerning his literary contacts or anecdotes. Therefore, the book was criticized precisely for deceiving the reader and for avoiding the truth or deliberately omitting it. Even so, Amintiri deghizate still remains an important document for the litterary history as well as for the litterary criticism
