Summary/Abstract: The fact that political prisoners in the communist prisons in Romania resorted to religious coping strategies can be for many a downright provocative topic. The current study aims to identify, inventory and analyze the impact of different religious coping strategies used by political prisoners. The participants we will refer to are former political prisoners, and the data will be collected according to the methodological rigors characteristic of qualitative research. Thus, in order to analyze the impact of various religious coping strategies on physical and mental health, as well as on the level of perceived pain, we will use discourse analysis and thematic analysis. After conducting this qualitative research, we anticipate obtaining an accurate inventory of the main religious coping strategies used, as well as an understanding of how they influenced the adaptation to the prison experience. Subsequent research could focus on identifying and promoting the effects of religious coping in the context of other traumatic life events.
