Summary/Abstract: Astronomy has always been concerned with time, in particular with its measurement and use both in science and by the general public. However, the practical problems have became more and morecomplex with the progress of communications in the 19th century. In their endeavour to find solutions, Romanian scientists have been coming up with interesting suggestions, which are the topic of this paper. These regard in particular the law of the time zones, the transition fromthe Julian to the Gregorian calendar, the determination, preservation and transmission of the official time in Romania, the installation of the first public electric clock by the Bucharest Astronomical Observatory, the adoption of summer time, the technological solutions going up to the use of modern, quartz, then atomic clocks.
